Food Rescue Markets

Food Rescue Markets

The Food Rescue Market program started in partnership with Camperdown Uniting Church in 2024 as a collective effort to bring community together and to reduce food waste in our community.

In 2026 we developed a new partnership with the Cobden UC Op Shop to expand this initiative to Cobden.

With support from the Food Security Grant we secured via the Victorian State Government in late 2025, we are aiming to establish other such partnerships and new markets across Corangamite in 2026 and 2027.

Food Rescue Markets is not a food relief program, they are community events with the primary aim of reducing food waste in our community and food from going to landfill.

Food Rescue Markets are open to anyone in the community interested in helping reduce food waste; you are not required to be in need of food relief to attend a market day.

We do not police items that are being taken or set limits of what each individual market goer can take.

It is an expectation that market goers will be considerate of others attending the market day by not taking too many items that are short in supply; but in the end we are WANTING items to be taken, otherwise they will be ending up in landfill, which is why this initiative started in the first place.

Please be respectful of each other and of the organisers and volunteers.

Join us on ‘market day’, all welcome!

Bring your shopping bags and grab what you need/want! All free! You are also welcome to bring along and donate your own excess fresh produce from your gardens if you have any to spare/share.

The majority of food items are donated by local supermarkets that would otherwise be heading for landfill. Together we can reduce food waste!

Other food items and goods are donated by Corangamite Food Bank and Western District Food Share.

Supported by Corangamite Food Bank, Western District Food Share, Camperdown Woolworths, Food for Change, Ritchie’s IGA Supermarkets in Camperdown and Cobden.
