Knitting for a Cause program launch

Knitting for a Cause program launch

Camperdown Community House introduced the Knitting for Wildlife program in 2020, as a community project that could still be engaged in during lockdown periods.

We recieved amazing contributions from members of our community who participated in this program, and as a result community house has been able to contribute over 70 pouches and nests to Victorian and New South Wales animal shelters in areas that were impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires, with at least another 70 ready to send.

We are now launching “Knitting for a Cause”, a program that we hope to continue indefinitely and provide the opportunity for us to give back to a variety of local, regional and national causes.

To start off with, we will be knitting 50-inch long strips that will be sewn together to make blankets.

This way we are all contributing to the creation of the blanket, and this project will be accessible to any level of knitting experience, even beginners.

The blankets will either be donated directly to local charities either for fundraising or for use of their members/residents OR auctioned off to raise funds for local charities.

You are welcome to use your own acrylic yarn offcuts and scraps, as the more multicoloured the better! Please ensure that it is 8 ply and acrylic. Both experienced and beginner knitters are welcome to participate!

We can provide acrylic yarn if you do not have access to your own supply. If you have any acrylic 8 ply yarn you would like to donate to this project, please get in touch or drop it around to community house during our open hours.

Please see below for the specifics/directions. If you need more information, please call us on 5593 1403.
