16 Mar Meet Eileen McKenzie: Volunteer Profile
Volunteers are the life blood of the Camperdown Community House. Volunteers are our everything!
Meet Eileen McKenzie
Eileen has been a part of the Camperdown community for 53 years with her husband. She has two grown children and three beautiful grandkids;
“I love everything about Camperdown, the people and the friendliness”.
Eileen works as a music teacher at Simpson Primary school part time. She has a lot of experience when it comes to teaching and as a musician. Eileen has been teaching music since 1980 and has considerable personal musical talent and ability;
“Music is my life really; it gives me a lot of pleasure and it’s good for the soul. Music puts me in a happy place, and I like seeing other people get pleasure out of it as well”.
Although Eileen works part time, she still generously devotes one day every week to volunteer at Camperdown Community House. For 6 years now Eileen has been facilitating a music group that many individuals from around the community take part in. Community House Music Group is held from 11am to 12pm every Wednesday during school terms. One of Eileen’s favorite things about volunteering her music skills to the community is seeing people get satisfaction and serotonin from the music,
“Volunteering for me has been really rewarding. People seem to get a lot of enjoyment out of it, so that’s why I continue to do it”.
Eileen is an inspiration and an example of how volunteering benefits both the individuals volunteering and the wider community. If you are interested in learning more about music group or volunteering at community house, please get in touch!
