Corangamite Food Bank: Emergency Food Relief

Foodbank Logo

Corangamite Food Bank (formally Camperdown & District Food Bank) is proudly run by Camperdown & District Community House to support members of our community who find themselves in need of food relief.

Camperdown & District Community House is a registered agency with Food Bank Victoria and Western District Food Share, and offers this service to the entire Corangamite Shire region. Non-perishable food hampers and non food essential items, such as nappies and personal hygiene products, are available.

We can all find ourselves experiencing periods of financial stress or circumstances that make it difficult to juggle all of the financial pressures and demands life can bring. We should never be in a position where we have to choose between purchasing food and paying a bill or any other of life’s essentials. This is where Corangamite Food Bank can help.

A typical food box is valued between $90-$200 and contains (specific items may vary due to availability):

Corangamite food Bank hampers are made up of non-perishable and shelf-stable food items, including: cereal, milk, oats, pasta, a variety of canned foods such as soup, baked beans, tomatoes/vegetables and legumes, along with a range of ready made meals, noodles, pasta sauce, tuna, dry and sweet biscuits and a selection of snack/lunch box items when possible. Our food hampers are designed that you can make complete meals from the contents of you are unable to access fresh items, but we encourage people to access support to obtain fresh items to make more complete and healthy meals through food vouchers available via Camperdown Vinnies support service (contact: 0437 726 654).

We can provide access to the fresh produce and frozen meals available from Western District Food Share for our distribution partners on an as-needs basis. If this is something that you would benefit from, discuss this with the Distribution Partner you are collecting your food hamper from, and they can arrange a special order through us.

South west Health have produced fantastic ‘easy eats’ recipe cards that provide simple instructions and steps to create balanced meals from items you get in the hampers. You can also find more information about food relief available across the South West HERE.

Fresh locally grown produce is available at our Swap & Share community stall in the community garden hub and we work in partnership with Camperdown Uniting Church to run regular Food Rescue Markets with support from our local Ritchie’s IGA supermarkets and fresh food provided by Western District Food Share.
