ABOUT CAMPERDOWN COMMUNITY HOUSE

The Camperdown & District Community House Inc. (CCH) was founded in 1988 and is a not-for-profit incorporated organisation. We are based at 6 Gunner Street Camperdown, and consist of a volunteer Committee of Management, volunteers, members, and part time paid Coordinator. Our Coordiantor position is funded by the State Government’s Neighbourhood House Coordiantion Program.

CCH is committed to providing a caring, friendly, supportive, educational environment that is affordable and accessible. We are committed to an open, sharing and self-help model of management that encourages participation at all levels.

Our aim is to deliver appropriate, diverse and engaging programs, services and activities that provide opportunities for people in our community to connect, support each other and learn. We promote health and wellbeing through the services, programs and activities we provide. We also offer emergency food relief through our Food Bank service, as well as supporting access to the No Interest Loans program as an unpaid partner.

Community Development and Neighbourhood House Guidelines, Sector Principles and Victorian Health Priorities, along with Social Model of Health principles, form the backbone for our programs and services development and delivery.

VOLUNTEERING AT CAMPERDOWN COMMUNITY HOUSE

Volunteering at Camperdown Community House is a rewarding way to give back to your community, meet new people, share your skills or passion, and/or learn and get involved with something new.

There are numerous ways to get involved as a volunteer and we are committed to working individually to find the best fit each person. You are never locked in to one way of volunteering or one particular volunteer role.

CCH provides a flexible, responsive and personalized approach to volunteering, and we can work together to make sure you are feeling satisfied and fulfilled by your engagement with the organisations as a volunteer.

What does volunteering at CCH mean?

Volunteers are the life blood of Neighbourhood Houses. Without volunteer engagement and contribution, much of our activity and relevance dissipates. Volunteers are our everything!

Volunteers represent the organisation to the wider public and community. It is essential that volunteers understand and agree to uphold our organisational values, vision, mission, code of conduct and sector principles. These will be provided to each volunteer during orientation.

Volunteers are expected to be paid members of the organisation. Membership incurs an annual $5 fee.

What kind of volunteer opportunities does CCH have?

Volunteering at CCH can be as simple as helping answer the phone when things are busy, or more complex tasks such as assisting with “front of house” which involved answering the phone, greeting people when they arrive, and providing referral information to services and supports upon request.

There are also opportunities to volunteer as a group or activity facilitator in an area of your interest and skill. There can be singular and non-ongoing jobs, such as assisting with shoveling compost into the compost bays in the community garden, one-off creative projects or events and much more.

We also have “skilled role” opportunities, such as bookkeeping and data collection/management, or social media and communications (newsletter, website etc.). These opportunities will require additional screening, previous skill and experience as well as the possibility that CCH will be required to provide you with additional training as required.
