20 Dec Light Up Camperdown
This year the Corangamite Shire introduced a new framework, Grow and Prosper Corangamite. This framework brings together economic development, tourism, arts and culture and events and festival strategies.
One aspect of this diverse framework will open up many opportunities for communities across Corangamite to establish iconic events that celebrate and connect community, promote and support local business and creative industries, along with establishing drawcards for tourism activity and engagement.
Light Up Camperdown lantern festival held on 8th December is a perfect example of how this can take shape.
We were thrilled that our dream of holding a European style Christmas market in the Avenue was taken on by the Grow and Prosper team, who created and championed a spectacular community event from this little seed of an idea!
Special thanks and acknowledgment must go to Tammy Young, Events and Creative Industries Team Leader, for championing this event alongside the Light Up Camperdown project she has been working on diligently, to illuminate and showcase the illustrious heritage sites of the Clocktower and Courthouse.
The Grow and Prosper team, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Camperdown, WildHoney Performing Arts, local businesses and local performers, really put on an extravaganza with Light Up Camperdown Light and Lantern Festival, an event that surely brought together and celebrated our community.
We were honored to be a part of the event in our small way, and our volunteers Heather and Merle provided their services teaching children how to make lanterns under less than desirable circumstances (heat and wind, wild weather!).
We hope this to be an annual event and to be involved again next year!
