18 Jul Increased Demand on Food Bank
Camperdown & District Food Bank supplies basic foods to local service agencies and community organisations who are supporting clients in need of emergency food relief.
Demand for this service has continued to grow, with five times the numbers of food boxes provided over the last year compared to the year before.
We have recently received funding and generous donations for this service. As this service relies on non-recurrent funding and donations to continue, these recent contributions will ensure that the Camperdown & District Food Bank will be able to continue to meet this growing need.
Camperdown & District Food Bank is an essential service to support members of the community who find themselves in the position where they require emergency food relief. The Camperdown & District Food Bank provides food parcels of non-perishable foods that cover items for each meal of the day and are packed to ensure that there will be enough to last over a number of days. If assistance to access fresh foods is also needed, they can be accessed via Warrnambool & District Food Share.
This service is run by the Camperdown & District Community House volunteer team, and is funded by non-recurrent grants and donations when available.
We have recently been awarded a grant of $5,000.00 from South West Community Foundation that will ensure ongoing non-perishable food stock for the next year.
We have also recently received a very generous donation of $1,193.00 from St Patrick Primary School following their Mt Leura Fun Run, and another donation from Camperdown Country Women’s Association.
This service has also received support from the Corangamite Shire via a quick response grant and other community members who have provided generous donations at various times. It is fabulous to receive such support from local groups and organisation, and we cannot thank them enough. These donations will ensure that local community members and families can continue to be supported by our service.
Camperdown & District Food Bank is not a direct to client service; emergency food relief boxes must be collected from Food Bank and provided to clients by agency staff, we do not provide food boxes directly to individuals or families from the community house.
If you or someone you know would benefit from a food relief box, you can do so by contacting one of the following agencies and community organisations:
- Manifold Place Community Health Centre (Monday-Friday) on 5593 1892 or 140 Manifold Street, Camperdown
- Vinnies Camperdown (Monday-Saturday) on 5593 1122 or 156 Manifold Street, Camperdown
- Camperdown Uniting Church on 5593 2323
- Cobden Uniting Church on 5595 1424 or 61 Curdie Street, Cobden
- Shine Life Church
When you contact one of the agencies listed above, they will then contact Food Bank and collect food parcels and the agency will provide these food parcels directly to you.
